Fans have been traveling across the world to bet on sports in Nevada since 1940. There are more than 200 active sportsbooks and the bulk of them are in Sin City. Roughly $5 billion in the handle is turned annually at legal Nevada sports betting venues (casinos and online portals associated with them).
Because of this, Las Vegas has long been viewed as the hub for legal sports betting. Nevada is one of the longest-running sports betting markets in the US, being one of the few states that were able to take wagers during PASPA.
